Trucks vs Bikes Dirt Rally!

Posted on December 16, 2021July 30, 2023 by Big Mike's Garage

Hazel

Race fans! We’re live today with part two of the Golden Honor Inaugural Cup!

Fisher

And what an event it will be! Today’s race is a dirt rally: Trucks vs Bikes. This is a Dirt stage instead of a GT circuit, but nothing too wild.

Event Rules

  • RALLY STAGE: We’re using Dirt rules (and damage tokens) instead of GT and a start-to-finish race not circuit laps.
  • HEATED WHEELS: All racers go FLAT OUT each turn but gain no Focus. Course trajectory is laid out after the roll is made, and caution results are still observed.
  • NON-ALCOHOLIC: This race is for fun and not meant to be too serious. Rules judgement and enforcement is relaxed accordingly.

STARTING POSITIONS

  1. Stephen Strong in the blue Hognose (R5)
  2. Phil ‘Bullet’ Thorn In the blue Race Cycle (R6)
  3. Eugene ‘Gamble’ Hamilton in the green Race Cycle (R6)
  4. Lars ‘Cannonball’ Morris in the red Adventure Truck (R5)

Fisher

These were drawn at random. Overview of the track:

CANDLEKEEP COVE RACEWAY – CUSTOM TRACK (GRAVEL)

Round 1

Hazel

In first position by random draw, Stephen Strong in the blue Hognose, and there’s a staggered start so he’s the only vehicle on the track this round.

Fisher

This is a gravel track, and thus the leader token is in play, meaning the leader uses the yellow coast dice.

Hazel

There’s a water hazard up ahead, and you can only be in gear 1 or coast to get through the space, and leader dice are just spicier coast dice with an extra caution result.

Fisher

We have caution markers now too, so you can see just how close each driver is to a loss of control. And to show you…

Hazel

Stephen got a caution in 4th gear but sails right over the water hazard using one of those leader dice.

Fisher

And that’s round 1!

Round 2

Hazel

Stephen Strong, going first! In Dirt it goes distance, gear, placement instead of the last races gear, distance, placement.

Fisher

Two cautions, but a nice slide through the second corner to bring him right up to the bridge!

Hazel

And what a bridge it is! Mark III is a new modular beast, having jump and non jump options.

Fisher

Flat options?

Hazel

So in this staggered start so Phil ‘Bullet’ Thorn in the first bike skidding right up to drift into the second corner.

Round 3

Fisher

Stephen still out front, starting in 5th gear. There’s a jump on top of the bridge. Who would do that?

Hazel

We would. We did! We used a hot glue gun and craft budget to endorse this madness .

Fisher

Oh yeah, and Stephen is gonna take it sideways, sliding over the jump to earn two cautions and land in corner 3 in 1st!

Hazel

Next up, Bullet races out of the turn to get nice and cozy with the bridge.

Fisher

Gamble plays it rather safe with one caution and not yet into corner 2.

Round 4

Hazel

Stephen Strong still leader, being at first gear in corner 3 means being able to whip the backend of that Hognose though corner 4 and right up to corner 5.

Fisher

Bullet blasts off the jump and glides right into 1st gear, at the tail end of corner 3.

Hazel

Jeez, Gamble! The green R6 bike nearly wipes on the turn, with a very turbulent drift and up onto the bridge in 6th.

Fisher

Oh yeah, there is a 4th racer, Lars ‘Cannonball’ Morris. He’s taking his first turn.

Hazel

Off with a blast, Cannonball takes the first corner at ripping speed before slipping on the water hazard and ending their turn trying to look like they meant to do that, sliding sideways and ending in 5th gear.

Fisher

And now that all the racers have taken at least a turn, we pause for a brief commercial break!

Round 5

Hazel

And we’re back! Stephen loses a bit of grip on the dirt coming out of corner five in 3rd gear.

Fisher

Bullet plays it safe, traversing corner to corner to end in 1st.

Hazel

Gamble risks it all, getting a caution on the jump, braking and skidding through corner through and ending in 2nd!

Fisher

Cannonball grabs their handbrake, cutting through the corner and coasting over the bridge to end the turn in 5th.

Round 6

Hazel

Stephen Strong cuts a corner, right through the shortcut! That’s an OK! result on the damage token draw, and right up under Lars and still in 5th heading towards the final corner!

An action shot from a fan!

Fisher

And Bullet living up to his monitor shoots right past Stephen Strong –and getting two cautionw– drifting through the corner instead of cutting it!

Hazel

Gamble making it okay through the shortcut.

Fisher

Cannonball taking it slow, eyeballing that shortcut.

Round 7

Hazel

We have a new leader! Bullet picks up the leader dice, but still getting no cautions in the final corner!

Fisher

Stephen takes a shortcut as well, getting a damage token for -1 brake dice! And takes Leader back!

Hazel

Gamble pushes the limit, getting two cautions but clearing the bridge and ending in 6th gear!

Fisher

Cannonball’s luck is scare, pulling a coast die damage token from the shortcut but ending in 4th.

Round 8

Hazel

Gamble now disheartened, takes it easy and floats down to 2nd.

Fisher

Lars trying to go as the crow flies, shortcut to cut and already down a coast die.

Hazel

Lars finishes the race on their roof, getting three cautions but crossing the line on their roof!

WINNERS CIRCLE

Fisher

And our scorekeeper has the final track times:

  1. Eugene ‘Gamble’ Hamilton in the green Race Cycle (R6) with a time of 2:30
  2. Lars ‘Cannonball’ Morris in the red Adventure Truck (R5) with a time of 3:05
  3. Phil ‘Bullet’ Thorn In the blue Race Cycle (R6) with a time of 3:10
  4. Stephen Strong in the blue Hognose (R5) with a time of 4:25

Hazel

Congrats to the Bikes for the win!
