Showdown at Suzuka – 2nd Heat

Theme from Big Mike’s Garage

Fisher:

And the Showdown at Suzuka continues!

Hazel:

We’re on Heat 2 now, with the winner of this heat going Not Fast But Furious’ “Bang” in the finals.

EVENT RULES

  • GUMBALL MACHINE: Racers were determined by random pulls, and are using their listed Racer Roster specs.
  • HEATED WHEELS: All racers go FLAT OUT each turn but gain no Focus. Course trajectory is laid out after the roll is made, and caution results are still observed.
  • NON-ALCOHOLIC: This race is for fun and not meant to be too serious. Rules judgement and enforcement is relaxed accordingly.
  • SEASONED FRIES: This event is worth Season Points, based on placement at the end of the race.

STARTING POSITIONS

  1. Deborah ‘The Mermaid’ Browning in the orange Porsche 914 (GT4)
  2. ‘Fayth’ Miles in the yellow Renault R5 Turbo (R4)
  3. B.J. Hontiveros in the orange Adventure Racing Truck (#0527, Unlimited)

Hazel:

Since we’ve started using those new Dashboards, we should start including them with the starting line.

Fisher:

Fair point. And in this case, it looks like our racers are pretty well matched up, stat-wise.

Hazel:

B.J. Hortiveros has Junk in the Trunk?

Fisher:

That’s not body shaming, that’s a new rule out of Big Mike’s CONCEPT Garage! As you can see, B.J.’s racing truck is a bit bigger than the other cars.

Hazel:

Understandable, as that’s a performance car carrier, basically.

Fisher:

Exactly! And because the truck is so long, it actually takes up two spaces, when not in a fast lane.

Hazel:

I can see how that could make things interesting…

Fisher:

That’s the idea!

CANDLEKEEP COVE RACEWAY – SUZUKA (CIRCUT)

Round 1

Hazel:

The Mermaid starts us off, with a nice clean line through Corner 1.

Fisher:

This does open up a space for Fayth to hug the inside lane though, which will let them go first next turn.

Hazel:

True. And B.J. is barrelling into that corner as well, taking up the safe spot of Corner 1 and the space leading I to it.

Round 2

Fisher:

Fayth with the inside position takes their Renault R5 Turbo and shows off just what their R4/GT can do, weaving through Turn 2, 3, and 4 with ease.

Hazel:

The Mermaid is struggling to keep up, as Deborah’s Porsche 914 just can’t get there.

Fisher:

B.J. is still coming along for the ride, not falling that far behind even though that fat-bottom truck is still halfway in Turn 3.

Hazel:

If he manages to get ahead, that’ll create quite the bottleneck to maneuver around.

Round 3

Fisher:

And it looks like Fayth put too little prayer into Turn 6 with it’s dangerous curve as they’ve spun out and tore up the grass next to the track!

Hazel:

It’ll be tough to hold onto that lead, with The Mermaid and B.J. closing in and taking advantage of this slip up.

Fisher:

We’re going to cut to a quick break to clean up Fayth’s booboo and be right back!

Round 4

Hazel:

And we’re back! You may notice that the track looks a little more put-together then it was before.

Fisher:

That’s right! We got board game clips from PrintablesByCaren!

Hazel:

Not a sponsor.

Fisher:

These are the 120° 2.5mm Crystal Clear Clips, and they are certainly making our racers look more professional!

Hazel:

We’re always looking for opportunities to take things to the next level here at Big Mike’s Garage, but now, back to the race!

Fisher:

The Mermaid takes the lead now, with B.J. keeping up as best he can.

Hazel:

It should be noted because of his “Junk in the Trunk” ability, he’s blocked Fayth’s rentery point so she’s back one space but will be free to move next turn.

Round 5

Fisher:

B.J. taking the middle lane was a smart move, as Fayth couldn’t pass him on the inside due to the speed restrictions being lower than his current gear.

Hazel:

Fayth taking the outside lane might keep the Renault R5 in check, but certainly not out of this race by any means.

Round 6

Fisher:

I was sure Baby Got Track was going to secure 2nd position, but our Freelancer is really throwing his all into this to keep it interesting!

Hazel:

But will it be enough to stop Van Hailin’ from swimming away with the lead?

Fisher:

With everyone in max gear and quickly approaching the hairpin at Corner 9? We’ll see!

Round 7

Hazel:

Well, so much for minimizing slipping on the track…

Fisher:

Deborah Browning’s Porsche 914 slides out of control exiting that hairpin turn, almost smashing into the Pits!

Hazel:

B.J. is keeping the pin locked down too, with Fayth kept back and to the outside.

Fisher:

This is turning into quite the scramble!

Hazel:

Now I just want breakfast…

Round 8

Fisher:

Honestly, I think racing trailers should be racing more if anything; the Adventure Racing Truck now has Corner 10 blocked.

Hazel:

Sure, but at the cost of speed. And Fayth has a chance to maneuver through due to their higher gear.

Round 9

Fisher:

I don’t know that it was enough Fayth was able to get ahead, but B.J. was able to get to the straight away, and now it’s going to be a chase to the end!

Round 10

Round 11

Hazel:

We didn’t think to check the bridge clearance, did we?

Fisher:

We did not. Pretty sure the Adventure Truck is going to need a paint touch up after that close shave.

Hazel:

Those winnings are gonna need to be reinvested…

Round 12

Fisher:

Thankfully all three of our racers are at their top speeds, as that Corner 12 would have meant another dive for Mermaid.

Hazel:

I’m not sure if it would be better or worse if it was raining.

Fisher:

She might still want to consider Rain Tires for all the sliding she’s doing anyway.

Round 13

Hazel:

Did we know B.J. was this ruthless? Other block, keeping the only way through restricted to a lower gear than he’s in.

Fisher:

We hear about overtaking, this is some serious countermeasure deployment!

Round 14

Hazel:

B.J. Hontiveros in the Adventure Racing Truck takes first!

Fisher:

He started hitting the brakes and let inertia push him over the line.

Hazel:

Fayth could have overtaken, but even though they had the speed, they didn’t have the reach.

Round 15

Fisher:

The racers were neck and neck after all…

Hazel:

Yeah, for second place. Fayth crosses the line first, with The Mermaid tailing in 3rd.

WINNERS CIRCLE

Fisher:

After all that, it starts raining as the drivers approach the podium. Amazing!

Hazel:

But will it last through to our 3rd Heat? Find out next as the Showdown at Suzuka continues!

Fisher:

And after that, see “Bang”, B.J. and the winner of the 3rd Heat in the final round!

  1. B.J. Hontiveros in the orange Adventure Racing Truck (#0527, Unlimited)
  2. ‘Fayth’ Miles in the yellow Renault R5 Turbo (R4)
  3. Deborah ‘The Mermaid’ Browning in the orange Porsche 914 (GT4)
