Showdown at Suzuka – Final

Theme from Big Mike’s Garage

Fisher:

And here’s the race it’s all been building to! Nine racers entered, only one racer leaves!

Hazel:

No one is dying today! It’s not that kind of showdown!

Fisher:

I guess with Todd eliminated, it’s not.

Hazel:

Try not to sound too disappointed.

EVENT RULES

  • GUMBALL MACHINE: Racers were determined by random pulls, and are using their listed Racer Roster specs.
  • HEATED WHEELS: All racers go FLAT OUT each turn but gain no Focus. Course trajectory is laid out after the roll is made, and caution results are still observed.
  • NON-ALCOHOLIC: This race is for fun and not meant to be too serious. Rules judgement and enforcement is relaxed accordingly.
  • SEASONED FRIES: This event is worth Season Points, based on placement at the end of the race.

STARTING POSITIONS

  1. Sewell ‘Bang’ Aranas in the red Chevrolet Camaro (GT6)
  2. B.J. Hontiveros in the orange Adventure Racing Truck (#0527, Unlimited)
  3. Moses ‘Martyr’ Buksh in the green Aston Martin V8 Vantage (GT6/RX – Team Challenge)

CANDLEKEEP COVE RACEWAY – SUZUKA (CIRCUT)

Round 1

Fisher:

Final Round — FIGHT!

Hazel:

No fighting!

Fisher:

We’re at Corner 1 and the gloves are definitely loose. Bang has pushed themselves into a very aggressive position, hoping they can brake hard enough to avoid being the first to touch grass. B.J. up and parks that adventure bus right in the racing line sweet spot. Sure looks like a fight brewing to me…

Hazel:

And poor Martyr on back-to-back races starts off on rocky footing. Not that it helped much last round in the rain, but that RX is the only one with a Boost die this time.

Round 2

Fisher:

Bang loses their first fight with the steering wheel, trying to ease from Gear 5 to Gear 2 in one space and ended up completely losing control and skidding out.

Hazel:

Yeah, but they still managed to secure their space. I don’t see this as a big hurdle for Sewell.

Fisher:

B.J. strategically taking up the lion’s share of Corner 2 means Martyr is forced to the outside lane for two corners in a row… You know we’re going to hear all about that over the radio.

Hazel:

Maybe not though! Using that Boost die has turned the scenic route into an advantage. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage will be going first next turn!

Round 3

Fisher:

The round starts off fun as Martyr goes for the middle lane so that B.J. gets a chance to see the scenery…

Hazel:

Yeah but it ends looking like a parable. Did Bang learn nothing from last time?

Fisher:

Guess we’ll see!

Round 4

Hazel:

Bang manages to keep their cool and not spin out, but has to concede the lead to B.J.

Fisher:

Already on the outside, the Adventure Truck was able to coast on by even despite the dangerous corner. Bang’s speed does however keep Martyr from also passing through the even sharper inside line.

Round 5

Hazel:

B.J. taking a defiant stance in the middle lane, challenges his peers to push themselves as they hurtle towards Fisher’s Bridge!

Fisher:

And the results are split! Martyr goes to the outside and takes the top speed, while Bang gets forced into the inside lane at the low speed. It may be our last time over the… I mean MY bridge here in Sazuka, but at least it’ll be interesting!

Round 6

Hazel:

For all he’s trying, Moses isn’t so far ahead that Bang can’t keep up. They really are battling it out for this finale!

Fisher:

The hairpin Corner 9 is up next, and then it’s pretty smooth sailing to the end, and that straightaway has been the determining factor more than once, so we’ll see!

Round 7

Hazel:

Everyone made it through the pinch, but at a cost. Everyone is in the lowest gear.

Fisher:

Really kind of a hard reset.

Round 8

Hazel:

Corners 10 and 11 being next to each other has kept this from going full on from turtle to hare.

Fisher:

No, but it looks like B.J. is trying to see if he’s got one more trick up his truck.

Round 9

Hazel:

Forcing everyone to pass him in Gear 4 was smart of Mr. Hontiveros, but I don’t think it’ll be enough.

Round 10

Fisher:

Actually, B.J. may have just sealed Martyr’s fate. Not being able to pull up beside the Camaro’s Gear 6 sliced off a huge cut of Martyr’s movement.

Round 11

Hazel:

B.J. just barely makes it under the bridge, while the Camaro and Aston Martin duke it out in the final twists!

Round 12

Fisher:

B.J. is consistent, but I don’t think that matters much to Sazuka.

Hazel:

It looks like top gear doesn’t do much for it either, as Martyr’s maneuverability has him out in front again and this time past the final corner…

Round 13

Fisher:

Martyr crosses the line first!

Hazel:

However, Bang crosses in a higher gear. We’re going to have to consult the Rules Commissioner about this.

Round 14

Fisher:

B.J. slides across the line in 3rd place. While B.J. doesn’t gain any Season Points for this, he did block one of the other teams from getting those points, to help keep the scores from stagnating.

WINNERS CIRCLE

Commissioner C:

After reviewing the rules, the only mention I find of a second racer crossing the finish line on the same turn is in the Teams expansion. Page 5 states that the second racer must have more Focus tokens to take the win. As neither racer had Focus tokens, Martyr retains his victory.

Fisher:

Thanks, babe! It looks like Moses ‘Martyr’ Buksh does claim this event in the name of Pumped Up Kits!

Hazel:

That wraps up Showdown at Sazuka. Stay tuned for our next event — and exciting news!

Fisher:

Sayonara!

  1. Moses ‘Martyr’ Buksh in the green Aston Martin V8 Vantage (GT6/RX – Team Challenge) – 25 Season Points
  2. Sewell ‘Bang’ Aranas in the red Chevrolet Camaro (GT6) – 18 Season Points
  3. B.J. Hontiveros in the orange Adventure Racing Truck (#0527, Unlimited)
